Modern Mammogram Machine Installed at Kenyatta National Hospital
NAIROBI, January, 12, 2026 – Sunview Medipro International has installed a modern mammogram machine at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in Nairobi, marking a major step forward in breast cancer screening and early detection.
The digital mammography unit includes advanced imaging software, a monitor system and an integrated printer. KNH Radiographer Brigid Kawa says the new equipment significantly improves the quality of breast imaging, producing clearer and sharper scans that enhance diagnostic accuracy.

"This machine is of its own kind. It’s state-of-the-art,” said Kawa. “Instead of getting one image, you can get more than ten images of the breast and get the printout.”
The improved imaging capability makes it easier for specialists to detect abnormalities at an early stage, supporting timely intervention and improved patient outcomes. Women aged 35 and above are encouraged to undergo regular screening, as early detection saves lives. Kawa noted that many people assume mammogram scans are painful, but that is not the case. “It’s more of discomfort due to the compression of the breast,” said Kawa, adding that the new machine offers greater comfort due to its softer padding.
The equipment is also adjustable, allowing it to go low enough to accommodate patients using wheelchairs and as well as taller individuals. The hospital officially notes that the machine is fully operational at KHN, with members of the public, including men who are also at risk, urged to come in for screening services.
Sunview Medipro has also rolled out similar machines in other Level VI hospitals, including Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu. The installation is part of the ongoing National Equipment Service Program (NESP), a government-led initiative aimed at equipping county hospitals with modern medical technology to improve healthcare delivery across the country.
