Sunview Medipro Installs Modern Laboratory equipment in 400 Hospitals

Sunview Medipro International has installed 3,600 modern medical laboratory equipment in over 400 county and subcounty hospitals as part of the National Equipment Service Program (NESP), a government initiative designed to expand access to modern diagnostic services.

The company is installing fully functional laboratory units that include advanced hematology analyzers, biochemistry analyzers, and electrolyte analyzers, which are required for accurate and timely diagnostics. These machines run tests like blood sugar, kidney function, liver enzymes, cholesterol, proteins and electrolytes.

The installations are tailored to the specific needs of each county, ensuring hospitals can offer a broader range of tests with improved efficiency, reliability and turnaround time.

So far, Sunview Medipro has successfully set up modern laboratories in up to 40 counties, significantly boosting their diagnostic capabilities. Before installation, some rural hospitals had to send blood samples to neighboring counties and wait days for the results. Now, clinicians run tests within minutes, aiding faster treatment of infections, bleeding disorder, electrolyte imbalances, maternal complications, kidney issues and chronic illnesses. Each installation is engineered to meet national standards while ensuring long-term sustainability through continuous maintenance, servicing and user training.

The new laboratory units are already transforming service delivery. Hospitals report improved patient flow, faster diagnosis of conditions such as infection, chronic diseases, and emergency cases, and reduced reliance on private facilities or distant referral centers. A lab technologist in Makueni, Grace Mwende, described the change; “We used to pack samples into a vehicle and pray they reached the other hospital safely. Now tests are done here, and results guide treatment immediately,”

By enabling clinicians to make quicker and more informed decisions, these labs are significantly enhancing treatment outcomes. Health professionals also highlight the role of modern lab equipment in strengthening disease surveillance, particularly for communicable diseases, maternal health diagnostics, and routine outpatient testing. With more counties now able to run comprehensive panels on-site, patients experience reduced waiting times and more convenient care.
