Longisa Hospital Unveils Modern 160-Slice CT Scan Centre, Boosting Diagnostic Capacity in the South Rift Region

Longisa, Bomet County — In a major milestone for county health services, Longisa County Referral Hospital officially commissioned a state-of-the-art 160-slice CT scan centre on January 21, 2026, significantly enhancing advanced imaging capacity in Bomet County and the wider southern parts of the Rift Valley region.

The launch was presided over by Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Barre Duale (EGH), in a ceremony that marked a step forward in decentralised, high-quality healthcare delivery for patients across the region. The new facility is fitted with cutting-edge computed tomography technology, which is expected to improve diagnostic services, support emergency care, and extend access to specialised clinical imaging including neurology, oncology, trauma and full-body assessments.

The installation forms part of Kenya’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the health system under the Social Health Authority (SHA) and expand Universal Health Coverage (UHC). “This remarkable facility brings advanced diagnostic services closer to the community, reducing costly referrals and ensuring our patients receive prompt, accurate care here at home,” said Hon. Aden Duale during the launch. The Cabinet Secretary also underscored the importance of safeguarding free, fully-funded Primary Health Care services in line with national policy directives.

From the moment it becomes fully operational, the 160-slice CT scanner will empower clinicians to conduct faster, higher-resolution scans with detailed cross-sectional imaging - a critical tool in detecting and managing conditions that require urgent clinical insight, from stroke evaluation to cancer staging. This level of capability is crucial in supporting accurate diagnosis, treatment planning and improved patient outcomes.

As the supplier of the advanced CT scanner, Sunview Medipro International expresses pride in contributing to this transformative investment in Kenya’s healthcare infrastructure. From the company’s viewpoint, this installation is more than a machine - it represents a strategic leap in clinical capability for Longisa Hospital and the South Rift region.

“Bringing this advanced 160-slice scanner to Longisa demonstrates our commitment to quality healthcare access across Kenya. We’re not just delivering equipment, we’re enabling clinicians to diagnose earlier, treat smarter, and save more lives,” said Yussuf Daud, Head of Radiology at Sunview Medipro.

The successful deployment included comprehensive installation support, staff training, and planned technical maintenance, key elements to ensure long-term sustainability and optimal performance. Sunview’s integrated approach, from equipment commissioning to local capacity building, aligns with goals of eliminating care disparities between urban referral centres and county-level facilities.
